Eligible Receiver Go For Two: Week 6 game of the week

Water cooler topics are the ones that the most people will be talking about this week in football. Often times I like to highlight the game of the week. The game of the week is usually the one that has the most impact standings wise, or a game that is played between the two highest skilled teams that week.

This week that game is the Arizona Cardinals at the San Francisco 49ers.

Unfortunately, the game most people will be talking about this week is the abysmal Washington Redskins at the Dallas Cowboys. The reason is because of the disaster that is the NFC East. We’ve all heard about the interception that Romo threw against Denver. Yeah, yeah. We all know too that opponents essentially plan on the fact that Tony will make a mistake in the fourth quarter. However, let’s take this game independently from the rest. Oh, and let me reiterate how much I inherently hate Tony Romo. So when I say this, it’s not because I am a fan of his. My point is, throwing that interception did not lose the game for them. Tony Romo threw for 506 yards. 506! Five touchdowns. Manning, on the other hand, threw for 414 for 4 touchdowns. BOTH OF THEM THREW INTERCEPTIONS. The real issue here is the defense on both teams. Denver needs to figure out how to get their defense going. One of these days Denver is not going to just be able to put up more points that the opposing team. If Dallas can almost beat them, what happens when Denver plays …oh, wait. Denver’s schedule is so easy the NFL might as well give them the first seed right now.

The other reason the Washington/Cowboys game is so interesting is that the NFC East is so awful that it is absolutely within reason that the New York Football Giants are not out of the playoff race yet with a 0-5 record. As of right now, that is only 2 games behind the Cowboys. If Washington wins and the Cowboys lose, that will make their respective records 2-3 and 2-4. If the Eagles lose, that would make the Eagles 2-4. So even if the Giants lose and become 0-6, they are STILL in the playoff race.

That’s just bonkers.

As for the silly Cardinals versus 49ers, they can’t compete with that kind of weirdly tantalizing drama.

This weekend my eye will be on the NFC East battle.

As always, Go Pack.
